At the end of December, the members of the working group of the ICTS High Biosafety Laboratories Network (RLASB) met to start up this infrastructure and make it available to the Spanish scientific and technological sector. The RLASB is an ICTS distributed in two nodes, the IRTA-CReSA and the INIA-CISA, two research centers in animal health that are referents in biosecurity and biocontainment at the state and global levels.

ICTS infrastructures have a very high investment, maintenance and operation, whose importance and strategic nature justify their availability for the entire R&I collective. The ICTS are distributed throughout the national territory and are included in what is called the “Map of Singular Scientific and Technical Infrastructures (ICTS)”. Their objective is to offer a quality service to the national and international scientific and technological community, dedicating at least 20% of their capacity in a competitive open access regime with the support of the technical and administrative staff of the ICTS.
The objective of RLASB is to make available to the scientific, technological and innovation system of the Spanish State the infrastructure of the RLASB to carry out experiments with infectious pathogens that require conditions of high biosecurity and biocontainment. Several open access calls will be launched in the coming months.
